Sex in the (Lion) City

Category: General

It’s pretty amazing how polytechnics in Singapore introduce lessons of seductions, so as to populate and increase the birth rates. (Thanks Deerajy for the enlightening article, which set me thinking… Hehehe!) However, I am not too sure what kind of message are being sent across to the youth, like more shotguns? or true love?

Anyway, I am wondering, if such courses are introduced in my school, what would the structure be like? Ah-ha! They can do something like…

Thinking “I am not so good” can be Good!

Category: General

I was reading SSA Times (Issue 316) and come across this little article which I find it meaningful, interesting and a reminder to myself. :) Here you go! :D

——————————————-

A Japanese teacher preparing his students for univeristy entrance examiniation asked each student how well they think they will do in the examination. The teacher found that most who felt that they who stated that they would not do well, passed and made it into the university.

The teacher concluded that students who felt “I am not so good” actually made greater effort than those who felt “I am good”. Feeling good about their ability actually caused the student to be complacent and lose the spirit to work hard. In this sense, feeling good was actually bad.

On the contrary, the feeling that “I am not good” can be positive. The important key is what fundamental spirit resides in the depths of our lives. If we still have a strong determination to improve and win, we can use our failures or inadequacies as a springboard to succeed in the end.

Thomas Edison, the great inventor who created thefirst light bulb and numerous other inventions suffered from a weak memory. But he compensated this weakness with tremendous mental exertion that helped to expand his intellectual capacity.

It’s a long time…

Category: General

Wow, my last blog entry is two months. So what am I up for the past two months? While majority of the time was on study, moving house from Bishan to Punggol, it’s lots of inner and external struggles. How far had I pushed myself? Was the two months value creating? … Well it can be better.

Two days ago, Singapore Soka Association Youth Division held a commemorative meeting to commemorate 50th anniversary of kosen rufu day. This is the day where the youth will vow to take the lead to realise the happiness of humanity.

For the past few weeks, I was spiritually tired. A few days ago, I started to reflect on what has happened for the past two months. I realised what I did so far wasn’t advancing my life at all. While I feel the fresh begining after the commemorative meeting, I need to align myself to the right direction… Based on faith. Nam myoho renge kyo…

So pick me, choose me, love me.

Category: General

Long time no update this blog! hahaha!

A quote from Grey’s Anatomy by Meredith GreY, “Okay, here it is, your choice… it’s simple, her or me, and I’m sure she is really great. But Derek, I love you, in a really, really big pretend to like your taste in music, let you eat the last piece of cheesecake, hold a radio over my head outside your window, unfortunate way that makes me hate you, love you. So pick me, choose me, love me.”

Problems, can we really run away?

Category: General

We, the human beings, are the most problematic bunch of living things in the world. We have problems be it studies, work, financial, relationship, inner struggles and etc. So the question here is that, whatever we are doing now, in attempt to resolve the problem, is it seriously running away from the problem, or are we seriously trying to solve it. So how do you know you are running away or facing the problem head on?

There was once a story (which might be familiar to some). There was a man who was hungry and have not eaten for three days and a fisherman noticed him and decided to give him a fish. The man was delighted and ate the fish (after cooking it, of course). On the following day, the man was hungry again and the fisherman gave him another fish and he ate it. On the third day, the man was hungry again, but this time, the fisherman did not appear. Again, on the forth, fifth and sixth day, the fisherman did not appear till the man died of hunger. What do you think is the problem of this man? In this running away from his problem?

Yes and no.

Yes because he depended much on the fisherman on his sustainability and he did not think about whether he can survive the next month, week or even just next day. And no because he was receiving food and, only if, he choose to learn fishing from the fisherman at the same time when he will be guaranteed food at least for many days to come. “Learning to fish” is definitely not an easy task to do and it requires lot of determination and courage so to speak. You might not learn the skill in a day, but it is a starting point to solve your problem permanently and this skill can be practiced to perfection. You might ask, “Why learn to fish when I can get fish today?” What about tomorrow, next week, next month? Many of us would not choose this path of going through so much hardship, and find an easy and most comfortable way out. But will you be sure the problem will not haunt you again? Problems are neither unsolvable nor run away. It is how YOU determine how the game to be played, the hard way or the easy way. No skilled sailor are trained from smooth sea.

Soka Gakkai International President Daisaku Ikeda once said, “Even places that have been shrouded in darkness for billions of years can be illuminated. Even a stone from the bottom of a river can be used to produce fire. Our present sufferings, no matter how dark, have certainly not continued for billions of years-nor will they linger forever. The sun will definitely rise. In fact, its ascent has already begun.”

So let’s pluck up our courage and challenge all our problems head on, and be a victor in life. :D

Benazir Bhutto’s death

Category: General

When I first heard about the Ms.Bhutto, I felt I saw great hope in Pakistan’s future. For a woman like her, who felt so much for the common people, I think she is a woman with great respect. Women are like the sun; warm and strong. Shining bright all day.

While the act of great good is subjected to harsh persecutions, I don’t think death would be a concern for Ms. Bhutto, rather, how to fight against injustice for the common people is the concern for her, it is her love for the Pakistanis. Otherwise, she could have chose n not to enter politics.

Although Ms. Bhutto is assassinated and it is a great loss that such a incident happened, it is important not to lose hope and carry on the spirit to stand up for the common people, to stand up for each other. I believe this is what Ms. Bhutto will want to see in Pakistanis and applaud them for doing so.
